Soltegra is a group of bioeconomy solutions professionals with deep experience in turning agricultural and industrial biowaste streams into profitable revenue.

Derek Gauger
CEO

Derek is a clean energy, Bioeconomy, and innovation professional with deep experience in project finance. Derek has co-founded three startups and developed over 28 patents in his career.

Prior to Soltegra, Derek founded Karbon Harmonics, a clean energy project development consultancy. With a focus on bioenergy, biofertilizers and biogenic CO2, Derek provided finance, financial structuring, feasibility and development services to projects in 10 countries spanning 4 continents.

Prior to Karbon Harmonics, Derek co-founded Zynergy Capital, a FinTech enabled clean energy project finance firm. He led technical development, finance and broker-dealer operations (previously FINRA licensed) for the company. Derek’s project work spanned a wide diversity of renewable technologies including bioconversion, geothermal, pumped hydro storage, battery storage, solar, wind and hydroelectric.

Derek also founded and served as President of Product Harmonics where he performed product development and business turn around services for manufactured products companies.

Earlier in his career, Derek held multiple engineering, manufacturing and leadership positions at SDRC (now Siemens PLM) and ITT Automotive (now Lear Corp.) where he designed and manufactured products for Toyota Motor Company totaling over $4 billion in product sales.

Derek has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He enjoys competitive sailing, water sports and furniture building. Derek lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Paul Jeffery
COO

Paul is an energy, infrastructure and construction management professional with over 30 years as a principal and partner of engineering firms. Paul has specialized in and successfully implemented hundreds of large scale bioenergy, industrial, commercial, energy and hospitality projects.

Prior to Soltegra, Paul founded JRA Electrical Engineers. JRA was contracted by leading companies for a wide variety of projects centered on power and electrical engineering. Paul's leadership of JRA included employing over 35 professionals over 2 decades and generated over $80 million in revenue. JRA's client base was vast and included Tesla, Toyota, Jarvis Conservatory, AT&T, Chevron and Shell and also included Military contracts requiring clearances. Paul's work spanned a diverse cross section of industries including: Manufacturing, Hospitality / Resorts / Restaurants, Wineries & Distilleries, Performing Arts Centers, Commercial Buildings, Industrial Buildings, Waste Water Treatment Facilities, Education and Refineries from 2 different California offices. Paul also served as Managing Director of NET Europe, BV and the Humankind Group, BV in the Netherlands.

Prior to JRA, Paul held engineering and leadership positions at WHM, Inc., Simplex and the Dynalectric Company.

Paul has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington. He is an avid golfer, a commercial pilot and enjoys fly fishing. Paul lives in California wine country in Napa Valley.

Klaas Hofstra
Technical Director

Klaas is the General Manager of Adverio Waste Systems in the Netherlands. Soltegra works with both Klaas and Adverio for conceptual and final engineering of bioconversion systems, feedstock testing and analysis and innovative approaches to turning waste streams into products of value. Klaas has designed and built through Adverio’s EPCM services over 50 biogas/RNG projects and advanced composting facilities throughout Europe, N. America and Asia. Additionally, Klaas has designed and/or built over 100 municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants most of which also include anaerobic digesters. Adverio and Klaas specialize in valorizing challenging feedstocks through many bioconversion processes.

Klaas has a degree in technical business administration from Stenden University of Applied Sciences and enjoys competing in triathlons. Klaas lives in Lichtenvoorde, Netherlands.

Marisa McArthur
Chief of Staff and Business Development

Marisa is a people and business operations professional with over 25 years of progressive management experience in process improvement, employee engagement, and working closely with high-level executives.

As Human Resource Operations Manager for Swift Real Estate Partners, she developed and executed policies and programs to support Swift’s entrepreneurial, flexible, and fast-paced development environment.

Marisa was the Chief of Staff at Zynergy Capital, a FinTech enabled clean energy project finance firm. She served as an extension of the Executive and Operational teams, ensuring the implementation of strategic and tactical initiatives and was instrumental in building a multibillion dollar database of project investors and pipeline of renewable energy projects.

Marisa also worked for the American Petroleum Institute where she managed and implemented training programs globally. She worked at the American Red Cross as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff in the CEO's Office and developed new policies and procedures to increase efficiencies and established relationships with board members, donors, and key stakeholders.

She has a BA in Political Science from Wheaton College, Massachusetts, and her MBA from Trinity Washington University. She is an avid tennis player and cross-fitter. Marisa lives in Tiburon, CA with her family.
